Every country needs a ratings board, particularly with free TV.

Tbf to them, they usually steer clear of film festivals, which allows filmmakers the leeway to just make whatever movie they want. That’s why we have movies like Fisting, Dog Days, or the unfortunate My Father Myself. Heck, QCinema constantly shows some of the most extreme art films around (Gaspar Noe’s Love, Stranger By The Lake last year) and they don’t stand in the way.

I agree ratings are good way for people to know what they are watching. But here is my problem with MTRCB could have just been an private org or a ngo that gives rating not censor. Yes they did not touch movie festivals but takes alms on almost nil suggestive act is because it’s done on free tv? Wants to ban a movie because it’s showing Sulu in bad light. Did not even think of the fact banning it the PH does not do a thing because the intended audience we’re not us. Imagine if MTRCB did have their plans approved on monitoring Netflix and other streaming networks. All the censorship you can imagine blood being black and white, curse words bleep out and just a hint of sexuality is banned, scenes cut out and any political talks banned. Trese won’t likely even exist. This is why big companies in Philippines keep producing garbage movie not just because it sells to the mass because it makes MTRCB happy.
