PSA: If you ever see a bat laying on the ground like this, please don’t approach it/handle it. It may be sick and contagious. Call your local bat rescuer instead! They have the proper vaccinations and the knowledge to help the poor guy.

Last time I found a bat on the ground it was hissing and unhappy. We called our bat rescue and they had us put a box over the bat so the local wildlife wouldn’t attack the poor thing. Turns out it was a momma bat that is in the process of giving birth. Both bats were fine when the rescue picked them up.
