AFAICT the commission didn’t call it off; the UFC tried to pressure Stephen to fight at a disadvantage against an overweight opponent, he declined, so they’re declining to pay him.
Yep. This is the kind of stuff that the UFC does regularly. This would get a lower profile fighter blacklisted too.
How do I know? One of my friends was on a UFC contract for years and only fought 1x. He took his first fight there as a last minute fill in and lost. The UFC said they would repay him for that situation since he stepped up. But… They never did. They just kept asking him to take last minute fights, etc. He told them absolutely not because he was an established fighter prior to signing with them and he wanted a full camp. After his contract was up he went to another promoter and hasn’t looked back. He said the UFC would blacklist fighters for refusing fights or for not caving to requests like this one.
Fucked up if he doesn’t get paid for that. Did the commission call it off for Pereira being 3 lbs over or did Wonderboy say no?

Classic scummy UFC behaviour.
This is a better description of what happened than what I came up with. He’s being punished for not caving in.
