First time I heard of Vance was on a podcast where he was being interviewed to promote his autobiographical film during the pandemic. I thought, “sounds like a nice man and I might watch his film.” The movie got lukewarm reviews anyway so I didn’t bother watching. Over time, his name popped up more on the media and then eventually we get where we are now that he became a fascist. And that’s the thing, nobody expected he will turn to politics and then became a lackey to a führer, even the director of his film said they didn’t talk about politics during the production.

I never really paid much attention to Vance over the years but I heard few things about him to piece things together that he’s a deeply lonely and insecure man. He was an atheist but I think he penned an opinion piece before as to why he converted to Catholicism. Iirc, he mentioned that it is lonely if there is no ultimate purpose and life inherently has no meaning. I am paraphrasing but the sentiment is like that. So, with Vance being insecure, he wants to have some direction in life and attain some power. I am agnostic atheist, but I don’t feel dread that there is no inherent meaning to life, and I would not grift and be a fascist.
