I believe this is the first midrise proposed under the new Central Kingston Growth Plan. The building would be located at the corner of Johnson and Aberdeen, replacing three buildings (six total units) with a six-storey, 45-unit build. No commercial space is proposed (I don’t believe the new bylaw requires it in this location).

Developer is Amber Peak.

Architecture by RAW Design, who did the Broom Factory renewal.

Nice! Mixed feelings on this. Broom Factory was beautifully done and I’m sure it’s a net positive for housing issues that strikes a smart balance between the NIMBYs and the developers in the city to start focusing on more midrise projects. But the location is pretty undesirable for anyone who’s not a student. How about a few of these in areas where adult workers and families actually want to live? 😂

I agree 100%. We need more midrise buildings outside of student neighbourhoods. I’m hoping this new council will take this more seriously when they develop the next official plan.
