I’ll be getting a used JVC L-A31 tomorrow and it comes with a replacement stylus. I suppose ill be installing it right away as I don’t know how old the one that is currently installed is. Any tips on how to make sure I don’t break the tonearm or cartridge? I only replaced the stylus and cartridge once on a very cheap record player which uses one of those 3 euros cartridges, will the procedure be similar or should I expect some further complications?

Oh sorry it should pop right off you’ll just need to replace with the factory one assuming that its the stock cartridge (and you can find one)

Awesome. Yes the previous owner is selling an unopened new stylus along with the player, I assume they bought it to have a spare one and never used it.

In case anyone needs it for future reference the stylus on the original Z1-S cartridge just comes right off with a slight horizontal pull away from the cartridge. It is a lot easier than replacing the cartridge on cheaper players such as low-end Crosleys (eg. https://youtu.be/XtFBIa39U0U), so don’t expect the procedure to be similar.
