Yeah, I want to get into that eventually. The big downside is you have to share rural roads with cars, which doesn’t feel the safest. I wish cities had dedicated bike paths leading into the countryside to nearby natural areas. I also wish they had trains leading into nearby state/provincial/national parks to give another option for car-free camping and hiking.
My region does have one very nice separated rural bike path leading up to the nearby provincial park, but its terminus in the city is way on the other side of town. I aim to use it for bikepacking eventually, though.
Backpacking exists.
