Weird when people extend our emotions to other animals, but 100% with you on mammals. There’s an argument to be made for the smarter birds, but they still don’t have the same brain structures.
As to reasoning, my pet pig has pulled some astonishing moves, smarter than any dog or cat I’ve had. One time he walked up to the fence across the front porch, saw that I had removed a clamp, casually lifted it with his nose and cruised out. This is not a thing he had tested before. But no, nothing approaching human levels, not past a 4-yo or so.
