I think there are a lot of women calling themselves feminists while spouting misandry, which turns most men and a ton of women off of the movement alltogether.

Someone who hears that “feminism is about creating equality/equity” would probably agree with that, and even call themselves a feminist.

A regular person who hears a radfem start saying some bigoted stuff about men and replacing the patriarchy with a matriarchy will hear that and decide feminism isn’t something they want to support.

Even the image for this post is designed to be divisive. “If you don’t support feminism you’re a horrible oppressor” is not a good way to recruit people to a cause, it makes them not want to associate with that group mostly.

Edit: I am a feminist, i believe in working together to create a fair society and world. I would never say I was a feminist IRL because of the connotations.

The headmates era & tumblrites did a number on the PR/optics of modern feminism, but the rise of incel fascists has tipped the scales back the other way. Nothing has changed much in the feminist theory: most of the things I mocked and criticized in 201X I’d still mock and criticize today: but what has changed is that those types of people were a very loud minority; they’ve been drowned out as the vast majority has begun to raise their voices.

I’d proudly accept the label of feminist now, where as I had to qualify it with ‘3rd wave’ previously
