[T]emperatures have reached the century mark for 27 days in a row. With records dating back to the 1890s, that ties with 2011 as the longest stretch of triple-digit temperatures ever recorded in Austin.

The KXAN First Warning Weather team is currently forecasting at least seven more days at or above 100°, which would extend the streak past 30 days.

Maybe it’s because I was younger and lither in 2011, but this summer feels so much worse.

We haven’t gotten to the fires yet. 2011 was pretty bad. The eastern horizon looked like Mordor and as I recall the lakes were way lower.

The conditions were way different in 2011, there was less rain in the spring, LCRA gave rice farmers their full allotment which drained the lakes, and it was a La Niña year, but this year is El Niño, which means late summer/fall it’s more likely to rain and the humidity is higher

Agree, I’m just hoping we get through the next six weeks without massive fires.

Looking unlikely unfortunately. The wildfire smoke from San Marcos was visible all over south and west Austin this afternoon
