I am still in the fence on this. On one hand, social media giants have too much power over news publishers and something had to be done to change that. On the other, we have the repercussions of not having legitimate news organisations on social media—increase in misinformation. This could also lead to revenue loss for news organisations, especially the smaller ones, as they will lose access to a large section of the audience if Meta and Google blocks them.
I’m no fan of Facebook, but seems like the “epic miscalculation” was the Online news act itself.
