Well, sure thing. But even without flammable materials on the stove it is still dangerous to have a working stove. Personally, I have a stove with a child proof setting for the oven and the gas control for the top section, so that you have to turn the knob and press it for a few seconds, otherwise the stove will turn itself off preventing the accidental ignition.
