        Change in pressure. Those pipes are not as high-pressure as the surrounding ocean, so they risk being sucked into the pipes by the pressure imbalance.

          The Nord stream pipelines were actually at significantly higher pressure than the surrounding ocean though, they were pretty shallow, and at a pressure of 100 atmospheres.

              In case you’re unaware, Nord Stream is a gas pipeline.

                  Alternative:

                  A ∆P walks into a bar. The bartender serves drinks, furniture, and patrons to the whole block (violently) and the ∆P blinks out of existence.
