This was the inevitable outcome when the US government decided not to fully fund the HLS program in 2020, giving only 600M USD per year instead of the 3200M USD needed. With that big a budget cut, there was zero chance for an on-time departure.
A Mars mission will take much much more than a Moon mission - it costs 9000M just to return a rock from Mars, so how much more to return 4 people? At this rate, I don’t see how Mars is possible.
