… Who is meant to be on the soviet side and who on the side of NATO?

Because they’re both on the same side in the cold war https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_states_of_NATO#List_of_member_states

The extremely biased TL;DR is as follows. If you disagree, feel free to explain why you are a Fascist from the Greek Military Dictatorship established in 1967, and/or EOKA B , or a Bozkurt , MHP voting, fascist Turk.

During the Greek Dictatorship, Cypriot Greeks and Mainland Greeks had mixed movements for having Cyprus be part of Greece, ignoring the desires of the Turkish minority for Cyprus to remain independent ,and you know, NOT PART OF A FUCKING DICTATORSHIP.

    Leading to this :

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_invasion_of_Cyprus#Cypriot_military_coup_of_July_1974

The Turks invaded to put an end to this. This invasion, much like the Falklands war, made the Cypriot and Greek military dictatorships collapse. Hooray!

And then Turkey decided to stay in northern cyprus, and a population exchange happened, moving shitloads of families and dividing the island in half, with fucking no one recognising the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (Tr: KKTC, Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti). The Turks overstayed their welcome to… IDFK, and I’m Turkish.

I have spent time with Greek and Turkish Cypriots in the UK. I find it strange that they have the SAME ACCENT but in their respective languages. They are nice people, and I got on well with them, especially in the parts of the cultures that overlap. They are both culturually/ethnically different people, but as Aegean people, we share more than we don’t. It’s all rather silly, and finger pointing.

Ironically , the current flag of Cyprus was designed by a Cypriot Turk,İsmet Güney. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Cyprus

That’s the point of the meme - that Cyprus was a dispute whose alignments had fuck-all to do with the established blocs usually thought of when thinking of the Cold War.
