Breaking up the soviet union because it was founded on imperialist lies was a positive outcome.

Sure, but that doesn’t mean it was the ideal outcome. If nothing else, the period of ‘shock therapy’ lunacy and disintegration of state institutions in the 90s were damaging and avoidable.

OK, what if it reformed and it worked, enriching the lives of people in the republics in a way they struggle to do so now, while part of a stronger bloc that gives it international advantages and seamless inter bloc co-operation?

If that was ever going to happen in the Soviet union it would have in the many decades prior to collapsing.

Maybe some of the countries could learn from the mistakes of the USSR and give it another go, but not with Russia involved.

As the saying goes, there are decades when nothing happens, and weeks when decades happen. Polities often radically shift by seemingly minor circumstances.

The Soviet Union was not… well-placed for any sort of reform. But please just remember that the deterministic view is not more accurate than the optimistic one. There are always circumstances which can spur change, even late in a polity’s entrenchment into bad ideas and institutions.

fuck tankies, but china seems to be doing ok, from a pragmatic resource management and technological innovation sense, not from a human rights etc sense.

              So not the important part.
