    Ah, yes, solar roadways: because everybody knows the best thing to do with your (relatively, compared to asphalt or concrete) expensive and fragile electronics is to drive cars on them! And the best place for a flat panel that provides shade and rain protection is underfoot, not overhead.

      It’s actually quite fascinating that some people think it’s a good idea. It’s so bad in so many ways it’s kind of impressive.

        They don’t provide shade when they’re embedded in the roadway!

        What you want is just a solar panel canopy over the roadway, which is a different thing.
