I just ran through /c/lemmyworld and cross-posted everything I could find that’s been locked in order of most comments since @[email protected] wants to keep /c/lemmyworld focused.

    Thank you!

Tho I believe he’s not wrong in that the sub description does say it’s for server announcements, I agree the name is probably too generic and it’s become the goto sub for generic discussions.

The decision was also probably a bit rushed, in that it’s already in effect so no one had the time to setup alternative.

Anyway thanks for taking the initiative to create this community.

Yeah I get it. Just seems a bit early, especially since beehaw.org just blocked lemmy.world so now we don’t have access to Technology, News, Chat, etc where some of these posts would have been better suited. We should be encouraging discussion on Lemmy anywhere and everywhere for as little of it as there is right now. It’s hard enough as a new user to find anything, let alone start subscribing to specific communities on another instance.

I loved Chat and it was sad to have it blocked. Thanks for making this alternative. Hopefully it picks up speed!

It seems to be! The community has over 500 subscribers at this point and there have been a few submissions by other users. :)

Rapid population increase and more lax moderation here made it so Beehaw’s admins & mods were reportedly getting overwhelmed with some folks that didn’t click with their rules & aims for their community.

Any specific instances of actual harassment?

I honestly wasn’t watching closely enough to say, but Beehaw’s admins/mods are particular about enforcing their rules, and these don’t require an escalation to actual harassment to be in violation of them if I’m not mistaken.

If anything they would prefer to be proactive and prevent such an escalation if possible, but this demands more active moderation (i.e. trying to talk it out vs. reactively banning), especially given Lemmy’s current barebones moderation tools, than their team could keep up with with the influx of new folks.

Given better moderation tools, and user tools to filter posts & block domains/instances themselves & the like, they’d be more open to linking with world again.
