      The same military made up of the citizenry, of which the vast majority like guns in the first place and would turn against the government themselves… Right.

      The Viet Cong had AKs, seemed to work out for them.

      The absolute last fight any country’s military wants to pick is one against a guerrilla force especially when that force is compromised of their citizens. It would be an incredibly unpopular war of attrition.
