Awesomewm user here ; it works very well. One thing to handle is that the daemon does not start automatically. maybe I frogged up when installing. In any case, the daemon (I think, check the arch wiki page for kdeconnect) is located at /usr/bin/kdeconnectd, so maybe you should start it yourself in your awesome config.
