This was taken years back, during a custom map exploration a couple of the lads were doing. If I remember right, the hammer slamming down also knocked people upward anywhere outside, so it disrupted snipers well enough if you could get near the middle.

You get knocked upward, as if the ground had been struck with great force, within a certain radius of the impact.
