    My sister gifted me vanilla beans and I have no idea what to do. Something about buying a bottle of bourbon and putting them in it for a year? Help me out here. You’ve got me interested!

      I like aged white rum (Havana Club 3 year old, if you don’t want to pay absurd amounts). Something that’s had the rough alcohol taste rounded off a little, but also not too much of barrel / other flavours that’ll overwhelm the vanilla either.

      Split the beans in half, stuff them into the bottle, put it in the pantry. Shake it once a week. Should be good to use in about 2-3 months.

      Yeah, make sure the beans are completely covered in alcohol. Free vanilla extract for life if you pour some into smaller jars and refill with alcohol each time. Occasionally change the beans.

      I wouldn’t take OP’s advice, I don’t think they have your best interest in mind—those are definitely just rotten-ass bananas.
