One of the kids (steam family library) bought it and I tried it on my steam deck. It ran pretty poorly compared to the Skyrim SE release. I was very disappointed.
Yeah I heard about the issues it was having as well, they just can’t ever release anything that works it seems like and they’re so slow to fix anything with their crappy engine
Honestly Skyrim starts out in a very unpopulated setting vs Oblivion starting out in a major city iirc so performance issues might be apples to oranges but I never made it more than 30 minutes in oblivion where as I played probably another 50 hours of Skyrim.
Skyrim SE is just Skyrim with the higher res texture DLC, slightly better lighting, and some other DLC bundled in. It’s a late 7th-gen game that received some small updates for 8th-gen consoles.
Oblivion Remastered is two games running in tandem, the original early 7th-gen game (warts and all) processed through a separate Unreal Engine 5 rendering layer to bring it up to the visual fidelity of a 9th-gen game. It’s got way more going on visually, but also needs a lot of duct tape under the surface to hold it together because Oblivion is just that much bigger than Skyrim.
Got ya. All I know is I played OG Skyrim at launch for a lot of hours then a decade later the helicopter intro boss was just to much for me and i never went back. Fast forward and I bought a steam deck and my kids buy too many games (I rarely buy anything now lol) and SE worked out of the box.

I think it’s literally Unreal running the ES engine inside it. So if anything the stability should be pretty bad naturally.

I can see that, it’s a pretty demanding game.
