The letter lays out Putin's increasingly apparent vulnerabilities, Ukraine's growing strength, and the case for an immediate reopening of peace negotiations.
Nobody thinks otherwise today, except people who won’t after either.
This is not an exit for Putin. It’s the opposite. He hardly acknowledges existence of Zelensky, no way will he now submit to what he wrote in a letter.
If it was really was for Putin, it wouldn’t have been an open letter. It’s only there to say the chance was given. Putin isn’t really going to back down and say to the population “Oops, sorry I’ve sent a few hundred thousand sons and husbands to die for absolutely nothing. No hard feelings, right?”
But then who was it written for (what is the point of it)?
I don’t think it was well placed. He has a difficult job and has to have constant public statements and activity. He has been doing amazing, he is sure to have an incredible team behind that.
Not that it matters really in the grand picture, just that I think this one kind of falls flat. Like an intermezzo marketing thing, just to keep the war in the news.
The point is a lot of pundits saying Ukraine is the aggressor and doesn’t want peace, and that kind of talk got into politics, so this is meant to counter that.

Yeah but like I said, nobody needs convincing anymore.
