I understand that for at least the last few years dbrand has shipped the Killswitch case with a USB adapter to allow Valve’s Steam Deck Docking Station’s USB cable to fit the Killswitch. I also understand that dbrand did not always ship the Killswitch with the adapter. I’m not sure if the adapter has changed over time though, similar to how the Killswitch was updated.

I use the USB adapter that came with the Killswitch and I cannot get HDMI from the Docking Station to work. I assumed this was simply another instance of the many reports of the Docking Station having issues working with HDMI. However, each time that I connect the Docking Station without dbrand’s USB adapter, I am able to use HDMI without an issue. I am also able to use DisplayPort both with and without the USB adapter.

Unfortunately, the TV I want to connect to does not have DisplayPort. Unless I temporarily remove the Killswitch each time I want to use the Docking Station, connecting the Docking Station to the Steam Deck without dbrand’s USB adapter will likely cause problems for one or more of the Docking Station’s USB cable, the Steam Deck, or the Killswitch case.

tl;dr

Does anyone use the dbrand Killswitch case with Valve’s Steam Deck Docking Station to connect to a display via HDMI? If so, are you using the dbrand provided USB adapter? Did you have to do anything in particular to get HDMI to work?

I use the adapter and it just works. I haven’t removed the adapter from the dock since I got it and the adapter also works with my android tablet, but only without the tablet case. But since it works without the adapter then the adapter is probably broken. Check for bent pins.

I don’t see anything wrong with the pins/ports on either side of the adapter, the Docking Station’s cable, or the Steam Deck. Everything works for me (including charging, USB peripherals connected to the Docking Station, or connecting the Docking Station to other devices instead of the Steam Deck), except for HDMI out to monitor/TV when using the Kill switch adapter.

Just to confirm, you’re connecting the Docking Station to a monitor/TV via HDMI (not DisplayPort)?

Works on my Beamer, 3 different TVs and a Capture card. Haven used Displayport on it yet.
