GW2 also doesn’t gave any FOMO stuff (at least not anymore) that I can think of. And only FOMO thing they used to have was the way they were releasing updates - and the content was put back in eventually.

I think there was something called the living world, ages ago, when I did play it.

Regardless of what it was named, it was a time-limited set of story events. To my recollection, it was my first experience with a FOMO-inducing mechanic in a game. It is what caused me to bounce off the game completely and say I want nothing to do with this.

I can understand why such a design choice might be made - the scarcity of it pulls the large portion of the player base all into the same areas and same questlines at the same time. It can make the world feel far more populated. But… So does any new content, if to a lesser degree.

Yes, that’s what I was referencing. Really only Season 1 was FOMO galore. Season 2 and onwards was replayable - true, you had to log in to unlock it for free or buy it afterwards.

They stopped doing this some time ago. Later the Living World releases were tied to expansion purchases amd now they don’t do LW at all but only have yearly expacs.

They also reintroduced LW Season 1 to be replayable.

So it was a journey, but they get rid of the FOMO mostly (depends if you count seasonal events and stuff)
