Unfortunately this is the way. Copyright is a rigged system, and the mega companies that make bank off of it are no toothless tiger. Even if instance admins could probably argue since they don’t host the content themselves, they aren’t doing anything wrong, that doesn’t do much to prevent the holding companies bleeding them dry
Reddit has a legal team though… this place is full of volunteers who would rather not end up in jail or face fines.
