Ive never in my life made more than 50k/yr and i have a good union job. I would probably literally kill for 200k/yr

same here. and rent pretty matches the hcol area too. ive only know a handful of people living in or outlying area in the city that had <1k/month rent, but that was 10 years ago and likely from knowing the landlords personally(before all the bs renting sites existed)

likely a tech job, and in a HCOL area, which most people are in tech anyways. or multi generational family home. bio jobs if you are lucky earn slighty more than you at the most(entry level) but with significant experience and schooling too, otherwise theres very little of these jobs out there without you having xyears of experience. health-bio fares better(depending on which industry you are going to that isnt nursing or MD, likely you wan to be a NURSE if you want that level of income in a hcol.

sounds like HCOL, my bros who are in tech, when they had job before the layoffs had around if not more than 200k, and they couldnt justifying renting out. im nowhere near that income, too expensive to leave too. plus we also have the annoying property tax that the west coast is obsessed with adding to the expenses, they think they can indefinitely extract prop tax out of non-corporate landowners indefinitely. they should be targeting the BILLIONAIRES, hundred millionaires residing here. getting rid of nimbyism is a first step.
