So basically the amount given to the city is within what would be fairly normal for that sort of thing? It would be sustainable if needed?

Yeah, in effect it’s basically like a tax break. New York State is definitely still profiting off NYC, and NYC is the crown jewel of New York State, so it isn’t ridiculous to contribute some money to help them prosper.

Can’t guarantee it forever, but Mamdani’s government only had a few months or so to find 12 billion dollars (IIRC, these numbers still coming from my memory) in their budget. They found 9 billion and the State agreed to cover 3. Even if they can’t negotiate this with the state again, they now have until the budget renews to find another 3 billion. I wouldn’t expect Mamdani’s government to ever have to run a deficit with the progress they’ve made so far.

I’m glad to hear it. I’m always skeptical of claims coming from Twitter or memes, so it’s good to know the isn’t just a one-time gimmick.

Fucking weird to see how much different responsible government operates.

It’s wild, eh? Fascinating to see both a balanced budget, and so many good changes so quickly. Almost like it hasn’t been impossible all this time. It feels almost miraculous to watch a functioning government in action after all these years of watching the opposite.
