    Everest isn’t that tall as far as mountains go. The plateau it rests on is doing most of the work to make it the tallest mountain in the world.

      Rainier, here in Washington, looms over us at 14,111 or so. It thrusts upward from sea level and towers dramatically and without judgment… Waiting. (my bike is oblivious)

        Rainier is really impressive

        At 14,406 ft (4,391 m) it is the highest mountain in the U.S. state of Washington, the most topographically prominent mountain in the contiguous United States, and the tallest in the Cascade Volcanic Arc.
