I don’t doubt it a bit. China’s got issues, but when it comes to foreign policy they’re miles ahead of the US, especially these last couple years.

They are miles ahead of the US on genocide… And lets not talk about their cooked economy…

And Belts and Roads, they build garbage and try to enslave the country into letting them run rough shod over them. Its neo imperialism at is lamest…

Look I’m no tankie, I’m not really here to defend China, the state deserves to be called out.

…but the topic here is comparing them with the us. Picking a new middle-eastern country to bomb every decade or so, meddling in South and Central America, paying for the genocide of Palestine, and (economically the most important, unfortunately) increasingly erratic trade policy makes dealing with the us a pain in the ass.

Edit: how could I forget the fact that the prez and his government are nakedly child predators? That ought to ding their reputation on the world stage a bit more than obesity and gun violence

Eeh. These kinds of global opinion polls are rarely worth anything, but I can see it being largely true. China has been making a real push to expand their soft power and it’s been pretty effective - see opinions on lemmy about china’s genocides for an example. It’s boosted opinions about them quite a bit at a time when the US is taking it’s rep for a relaxing drive off a cliff. The US rep will almost undoubtedly recover if/when we oust trump though - he just makes it so damn easy to hate him specifically, and his obsessive drive to make everything about himself has largely (and sometimes correctly) shifted the social burden of the fault for US crimes from the country as a whole to him and his cronies specifically.

I think insights regarding trends et cetera can be drawn from this poll.

Interesting point about the US behavior being tied to Trump’s brand.

Australia’s relationship with the US has taken a hit. The government is still keen to cosy up because it’s our only chance to maintain resistance to China’s influence. However, the public sentiment on the US isn’t very positive at all.

How many millions died in the Middle East because of the US in the last fifty years? And how many Falun Gong and Uighurs and Tibetans died because of China in the same time?

Compare those numbers, mate. You may be surprised.

Who is more or less of an asshole is a subjective question.

Theres no question that the Chinese are assholes, but are they moreso than the US?

In the last few years the US has not only abandoned any semblance of a response to climate change, but they’ve doubled down on open hostility to renewable projects. As a global leader, this provides cover to every other country who can point to the US as a wealthy greenhouse gas emitter and say “what’s the point of us reducing our emissions when the US is actively increasing theirs?”

Would you like to talk about how much harm this will cause in the coming decades? What is the death toll likely to be, and how many people are going to be subjected to poverty and displaced due to famine?

The other salient issue is the current energy instability due to Trump’s belligerence with Iran. In the US it might just cost more to fill up your car with fuel. Theres a lot of regions in south East asia, where most fuel from the strait of Hormuz goes, that are enduring completely unnecessary energy crisis right now.

Would you like to talk about how many farms cant afford fertiliser because of US arrogance and what the impact of that might be in the coming months? Or perhaps what it might be line to have a small restaurant who simply can not buy LPG due to shortages?

Finally, with the US breathless support of Israel theres no moral high-sounding to be had by pointing to China’s human rights abuses.

Growing up in Australia in the 90s the US was always “bigger and better”, now you’re just assholes.

You have to be a sick person to think we are worse than the ccp.

As far as I know, China has never dropped two atomic bombs over two cities and insta-vaporizing thousands of humans.

On 6 and 9 August 1945, the United States detonated two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, respectively, during the final days of World War II. The aerial bombings killed 150,000 to 246,000 people, most of whom were civilians, and remain the first and only uses of nuclear weapons in an armed conflict.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic/_bombings/_of/_Hiroshima/_and/_Nagasaki

The United States of America is the first and only country to ever have used nuclear arsenals in an armed conflict. If this doesn’t make the United States of America the worst, I… have no words.

lol you know china benefited from that? They were getting the ass kicked by the Japanese. The real fighters (ROC) in china ended up in Taiwan. mao and the ccp cowards hid in the hills and when the civil war happened the ROC was too battle fatigued to deal with it.

And the ccp massacre was all civilian.

lol you know china benefited from that?

If we’re talking about schadenfreude-based geopolitics:
USA benefited from nazism with the “Operation paperclip”; Wernher Von Braun, a nazi, was imported by US military after nazism fell, importing the entire unethical/monstrous nazi experiments and benefiting from a luggage of unethical engineering to pave the way to “America first to land on the Moon”.

Hey, China is far from saint, but I’m a Brazilian, and as a Brazilian, I can’t help but notice how they haven’t been the ones implying they’ll conduct full military intervention in my country to “fight terrorist groups”, and they haven’t been the ones using their financial power to interfere with the Brazilian politics through blackmailing Brazil (“Monroe doctrine”).

Kinda ridiculous to call it whataboutism when that’s the point of the entire article, comparing the two.

Though yes, the US is fucked right now.
