Embark on a journey of adventure and creativity! Hytale combines the scope of a sandbox with the depth of a roleplaying game, immersing players in a procedurally generated world where teetering towers and deep dungeons promise rich rewards. Designed with creative players in mind, Hytale's engine supports everything from block-by-block castle construction to scripting and customization delivered using easy to use and powerful tools.
The built in mod support is kinda the scary part for me. It makes me worry that they could exercise too much control in the long-term. If it becomes the main point of distribution, then how is it different from how Minecraft Java vs Bedrock works? It would simply rely on trust, I think? Even if the option exists to do it another way, people will go with what is easiest. I kinda prefer letting sites pop up and handle it. Less of a worry over restrictions and monetization.
Everything else for me is mint though.
Honestly wouldn’t worry about it. Anego Studios (the studio behind Vintage Story, and bankrolling Hytale as well) have a considerable track record of mod support, and they host the mods on their site as well, which makes integrating and keeping mods up to date dead simple.
This is the first time I have heard that the Vintage Story folks are bankrolling Hytale. I thought Anego had announced their own Hytale inspired game during the whole Hytale cancellation, something like Project Glimmer or Project Glint.
I understand what you mean, there’s always a little tension on how they’re going to handle it, but people were already going to what’s easiest which is CurseForge. I think it makes sense that the game itself would have a built-in mod browser, especially to keep things up to date and not have to do it manually.
As long as you could always sideload mods, I think it would be great.
It would be really cool if this built-in browser simply linked with popular options, which is just Curse at the moment. It may even be that, I couldn’t really tell just from reading. I think I am a bit more doom-bell oriented these days than I need to be and I am sure it will all be fine.
