I think you’re right. Don’t know if they were always this way but i was subbed to them for a while and seeing the kinds of crap meaningles talks they were pumping out made my blood boil.
many of the TED speakers are paid events, as in the speaker basically pays TED and gets to talk and promote their book or company. Another little secret they don’t exact advertise.

Do you have any idea why (seemingly) so many people turn up?
because other people are doing it and it makes them feel special and smarter than other people.
it’s about purchasing the image of intellectualism, without doing the work, naturally.
