Glad you are back to baseline. I’ve been hypo since April/May, but now that I am at 150mg Lamotrigine, it feels like it might be subsiding. I was actually tired at midnight last night. That hadn’t happened for months. Since April, I’ve been getting 4hrs or less sleep, about three nights each week without any sleep at all.
I have played piano off and on for about forty years, but in the past few months, I’ve skilled up significantly. More than ever. There are other areas where I’ve excelled, too. More than is normal. The problem is that I’m doing two or four things at a time. I’ve been hypo before, but this is my longest, most intense episode yet. It led to my diagnosis.
I was only diagnosed 7 or 8 weeks ago, so I’m not at full therapeutic levels yet. I may need 200mg or more eventually.
Dang for me that’s right on the brink of a full manic episode. I don’t have much experience with this, I just had a manic episode a year and a half ago, leading to 8 days with no sleep at all. Since then I’ve only had lithium, and I’m at 2/3rds the prescribed dose.
I guess just make the most of it when you feel inspired. When you feel restless or bored try some of the other sleep hygiene tips: get out in the sun, exercise, and in the middle of the night sometimes a cold washcloth on the face and neck can help.
Diet may also play a role - you might consider more grounding, heavy foods like root vegetables or meat, or cheese. And less enlightening foods like sprouted seeds and grains, or nuts. Ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions have analyzed all these foods - and they have other names for this condition: kundalini mania or tai chi mania.
Anyway I hope you can rein it in. Remember medicine is an important tool but it’s not a magic bullet. There are many other complimentary practices, of which I have only explored a few.
