It was a response to what you were saying, but it isn’t inaccurate.
You are the one making assumptions that people are not trying to compliment you, merely commenting on you.
And let’s face it. If any of us were great at reading subtle social cues, we wouldn’t be here… So what I suggested was an alternative take on the situation that is less negative.
I do not believe that everyone that tries to talk to me is in some way being disparaging. That would be an awful way to live.

I’m not why you are so insistent you have some special understanding of a situation you were not privy too. My description did not assign a value of positive or negative to their comments. It appears you inferred meaning and decided it was a teaching moment I guess.
