WASHINGTON - Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) Peace & Security Taskforce Chair Rep. Ilhan Omar and 10 other CPC members—Representatives Greg Casar, Maxine Dexter, Jesús “Chuy” García, Jonathan L. Jackson, Jim McGovern, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Mark Pocan, Delia C. Ramirez, Rashida Tlaib, and Nydia M. Velázquez—issued the following statement in response to the Trump State Department’s release of the 100-page report, Cuba: Capital of 21st-Century Communism:

“Trump appears hellbent on taking America back 70 years to the height of Cold War McCarthyism, when hawkish foreign policy was paired with unsubstantiated accusations of communist subversion and political repression against dissidents at home.

“Trump has repeatedly threatened to take over Cuba and has deployed U.S. military ships to seize fuel vessels attempting to arrive on the island. And yet, in an Orwellian move, this administration now claims it is Cuba carrying out the ‘assault’ against the United States, by turning ‘Americans into instruments of their own nation’s undoing.’

    Ilhan Omar is more an American patriot than any American Republican. She embodies the stated ideals of the USA. It is the US government that has never lived up to its stated ideals.

      Something people don’t seem to understand, this is exactly (unfortunately) exactly how America is supposed to be. We’ve spent billions killing billions of people in the name of Anti-Communism. This is exactly how our country was intended to be. People trying to push the boundaries, like Tlaib, Omar or Mamdani, were never intended to be leaders in our white supremacist political system and they have a bigger battle ahead of them than most realize.

      The country that was founded on genocide perpetrated by white Europeans has a constitution written by rapist slavers. It puts a bad taste in my mouth when liberals act like Trump, lobbying, racism/anti immigration, general anti socialism/anti communism, pro genocide is “traitorous” and “against American values” when, if you pay attention in school, they teach you that these values are American and we have been working against them for hundreds of years now.

      People like leftists are anti-American, they are NOT patriots… for they are genuinely anti imperialist and Imperialism is and always has been the status quo in America, if that makes sense. And it’s a good thing (to be anti-imperialist).

      Idk where this whole “pro patriotism” thing came from on the left but I do not believe in the “idea” of America because it is a racist white supremacist genocidal regime that separates us by class and race on purpose. Who would be patriotic for that? Certainly not leftists …
