      I was not aware of a benefit to link this way outside of it helping you search while you type.

      Can you tell me why this is better to use in a Lemmy post?

      Does the other type of link not work?

        The type you used links to a specific instance, which for most people won’t be the one they are logged in at. The ! link is universal, it will go to that community on whatever instance (or app) the user is using.

        I really wish the devs had come up with something similar for posts/comments, but unfortunately they failed to do so.

      More frontends need to showcase this method of linking communities. I always forget the syntax.
