Basically Canada’s Bill C-22 (the Lawful Access Act) is proposed federal legislation introduced in March 2026 that expands police and intelligence powers, lowers evidentiary standards for accessing digital subscriber data, and requires tech and telecom companies to build surveillance and data retention capabilities.
It basically means that anyone offering online services MUST retain all user information. Including VPN’s
Most VPN providers have threatened to pull out of Canada, but who would want to subscribe to the ones who stay?
Basically, what other VPN like options would a user have?

yes if you provide services to Canada, under this law they would have to keep records.
But the company is physically in Sweden and you pay the Swedish company in Sweden.
It doesn’t seem different than North Korea demanding Canadian internet providers must follow North Korean laws.
I’m not saying it makes sense. I’m just saying this is how they expect it to work.
