When a company lays people off or fires someone, I’m pretty sure they tell them about it

Yeah, sometimes the day of. Don’t stick up for capitalsts, they would never do the same for you.

Yeah, what’s your point? Workers are the ones creating value for the company. When you don’t hold any cards, and get paid minimum wage, giving 2 weeks notice is a dangerous game.

Last time I didn’t give notice was a job that I was pretty sure would try to not pay me, or ask me to leave before the two weeks are up. I have no sympathy for employers.

This post sounds like the applicant was an IT or consultant. They definitely “hold cards” and are not paid minimum wage, and are often treated quite well. Usually the company wants these workers just as much as the worker wants the company. It’s a two way street and should be treated as such.

As someone who has hired many people in healthcare, very frankly, anyone who ghosts like this can fucking go to hell. This would extend a position being open sometimes by another month or two and only causes stress for everyone. It’s unprofessional as fuck

While firing someone via text message on Friday is absolutely OK.

HR guys are basically the company’s lackeys.

I’m not in HR, I’m a clinical manager. I’ve literally never fired someone via text message. I can count the number of people I’ve fired over 15 years on one hand, and they all saw it coming months in advance and had many opportunities to improve. All employers are not equal
