As Meta faces heat for selling artificial intelligence-powered sunglasses that record people without their knowledge, the web browser DuckDuckGo responded with what it called “the world’s most innovative anti-surveillance sunglasses”… otherwise known as normal sunglasses.

Duck duck is in a weird place…they pull stunts like this mocking AI, and yet they offer their own AI search, which despite their assurances that it is “better,” is still AI…if they were a zero AI organization I’d get these glasses, but they’re not…
DDG’s main attractiveness to me is only that it’s not Google. It is Microsoft though: the underlying search engine is Bing. But somehow DDG’s search results aren’t as lame as Bing’s.
Other than that, I don’t believe any of their privacy claims, for one simple reason: it’s free. When it’s free, you’re the product. There’s no way around it.
first: they have to adapt or die. no other option.
best case:
** worth noting that anthropic and chatgpt(service), AND mistral ! is NOT private. common sense. and you can see the icon that subtley indicates that it is not opensource.
a follow up question. where do they host their models. (last time i checked, it was together.ai) …so how do they guarantee data privacy when outsourcing to yet-another-AI-company
