Well at least criminal behavior is punished equally in the UK. I’m sure other such criminals get an ethics board to decide if they get to keep their jobs. No chance of jail either. Odd. My understanding was if you broke the law, you went to jail.

Lovely pithy snippet, but I’m sure you know that’s not what is happening.

If any MP is charged with a crime by the police then they are suspended while it works through the courts - same as any other potential criminal, innocent until found guilty and all that.

On the other hand a failure to follow the ethics rules for MPs is not a criminal matter, and is censure is enforced by parliament.

Taking a gift is not generally a crime (unless money laundering etc is involved), it is however not allowed under parliamentary rules, so if lizardman hadnt been an MP he would have no case to answer.

Hence why it is up to the ethics board and not the police, no be very clear that if any breach of the law is discovered in this investigation it will be handed over the police post haste.

The UK is a lot more corrupt than brits think it is, but it’s not corrupt in the way you’re implying.

So odd to me why the technicalities always seem to protect the powerful when they break rules that’d get a normal person fired or jailed, tho, right?

        It’s weird…

I’m not sure what kind of penalty he can face with respect to fines or jail time. Purely only recall what can happen to his political office position. I’m not sure anything he did this far is illegal with the law per say. But it is against the rules of parliament members.
