I have been very active in the roguelites sub on Reddit, all the while really chafing at using Reddit as a platform. Their enshittification and moderation practices are increasingly dysfunctional and I’d love to find similar community around roguelite games here in the Fedi.

I’m fairly new to the genre — discovered Returnal in 2025 and since then have voraciously been playing as many of the classics AND the newest titles as I can get my hands on. I play on Playstation, and my favorites recently are:

  • Returnal

  • Astral Ascent

  • Inscryption

  • Spiritfall

  • Entropy Survivors

  • Soulstone Survivors

  • Brotato

  • Hades 1 & 2

  • Blazblue Entropy Effect X

  • Dead Cells

  • Night Swarm

  • Nuclear Throne

  • RoboQuest

  • Warriors Abyss

  • Enter the Gungeon

  • The Land Beneath Us

  • Downwell

  • Saros

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate

  • Absolum

What about you — what are your favorites?

    I’m here too!

Magicraft, roguelite or not, has amazing spell crafting. My GOTY when it released.

Otherwise, I do like Striving for Light, [REDACTED], Returnal, Dandy Ace, Nova Drift, Warm Snow, Doomsday Hubters and a handful of other ones. Mainly those that allow crazy builds a-la-PoE. I basically replaced arpgs with those isometric or top down roguelites hehe

For some reason, Hades and BoI didn’t do it for me.

Otherwise, there are a bunch of bullet heaven roguelites I like, with Net.Attack() sitting at the top… evidently given my taste in spell programming XD

      Magicraft

That looks interesting. There’s nothing quite like Noita out there, but because I liked the spell-building so much, I’ve been looking for other things that implement spell-crafting. So far, I’ve been generally disappointed with what I’ve tried, and I initially thought that this was something that I already tried, but apparently not. Have to look into it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Net.Attack() looks like a similar concept, a survivorslike where you build your attack upgrades like code blocks. I haven’t gotten far with it yet but excited to go further.

I just got Pathologic and I already really like the combat and the way metaprogression comes in the form of building and perfecting a biological organism. Very polished and fun.

Returnal is my #1 all time, now battling my way through REDACTED among others. That and Warm Snow are tough! I haven’t gotten far in either.

I agree that BoI doesn’t do it for me but I’m still playing it to see what the big deal is, probably 5 hours in. It does have interesting build variety but so far it’s not enough to make up for the ugly / gross game design and simplistic combat.

Surprised to hear you like REDACTED but not Hades! I am close to 100%ing Hades 2 and it’s 🤌✨ even better than the first.
