It’s just a philosophical concept that people online have fallen in love with because the truth is a lot of them are intolerant to people with views who don’t match their own, and it gives them something to point to in order to feel justified in that intolerance.
“You say you don’t like this thing I do, and I see that as intolerant, therefore this meme says I should destroy you.”
They’re on the wrong side of the problem, but they feel passionate and righteous about it so they see everyone else as the intolerant monsters.

Not even destroy, per say. Just kinda be snotty to online (or in person).
They’re in the wrong set of bleachers, maybe. But I’m hard pressed to describe how many of these people are doing anything effectual.
They’re effectively causing a lot of headaches and exasperation.
