There’s a weird medieval double standard where a King can kill a thousand peasant children but killing the children of another King is uncivilized. It’s always, “But the children of the evil King are innocent!”
Maybe Kings wouldn’t be so evil if they knew their bloodline would be hurt for their actions. Otherwise they’re unselfishly risking their lives and reputation for the future of their family. In the social contract, allowing children to benefit from the actions of their parents only encourages parents to be ruthless.
