I can’t, and I think that proves my point? (Genuine question mark, not trying to be an asshole) There have certainly been others. Watchdogs at least started out as a gta clone with a matrix paint job, and similarly mafia has a 1900s paint job. Minds eye comes to mind as a recent example but you could certainly argue that product lacked quality. Saints row I actually still enjoy but it was very much a parody of GTA (and itself by the end). But the open city you can drive around in stolen cars is a concept that I feel like I see tons of cheap knock offs anytime I open the store page.

I certainly don’t mean to imply everyone is playing simply for the brand. But let me ask you this. If you dislike the brand, what is it about GTA that you do enjoy? (Again genuine question)

To me it’s the online gameplay with friends, and the casual ease with which the core gameplay loop works. I was huge into saints row and honestly I think 1-3 were better than gta but recent competition hasn’t been well done along the lines of a similar concept, I think saints row actually is a really good comparison because like, it’s primarily the story setting change of 4/5 that took me out of it, gameplay was fine.
