Trans woman Anaya Bangar is eligible to compete in the female category of her sport, CricketAustralia has announced.

Bangar, who played competitive cricket in India in the male category before transitioning, announced the news and her “Cricket Comeback” on Instagram, posting the confirmation letter earlier today.

I don’t like sports from a personal perspective but they are important to many people, not the least of which are the people who play them. There is significant data showing that any advantage fades within a couple of years and becomes effectively zero. Someone moving forward like this into the sport they love and being accepted by the sporting bodies is really important. One day this will be a complete nothing burger, but for now it is worthy of celebration. Good for her, I hope to see more of this.
