Original project its based on is larfingshnew/3d-controller-overlay, which didn’t have an update in 2 years and does not support Steam Deck or the new Steam Controller 2026. Recently a fork appeared Khyretos/3dco-plus that does what I want it to, supports the new controller (and other controllers and has different layouts for displaying the mappings) and has a ready to go AppImage for Linux. It also supports Gyro and Touch, and even Keyboard and Mouse.
But this fork is heavily Ai assisted (the original was not). The developer assures us this is not vibe coded, but carefully examined and understood before doing changes. Now I’m in a position where I initially didn’t want projects heavily developed with Ai, but this tool does exactly what I want it to and there is no alternative. I want to share it here anyway, so you can decide for yourself.

“I’m a very good dev who can check and validate all the code made by a slop machine, but yet I can’t write the code myself so I ask the slop machine to do it” has never been a really strong stance
That’s what people call “responsible use of Ai”. Its not vibe coded, and the base original was written without Ai too. So this is not comparable to slop. My issue however is, that I was avoiding Ai centric developed or supported applications. But I really need or want a program like this and was searching for years and finally found it. So there comes my exception, making my stance a double standard.
