Well the ability to close the straight is what gives Iran leverage. So any peace deal is implicitly backed by the threat to close the straight if the U.S. gets trigger happy. And similarly, if Iran blocks the straight, the U.S. would drop some more bombs on Iran. I think both side would like to go back to how it was before. But they both have to save face. And not be fucking morons. Which is difficult to arrange.
Full scale war is bad for everyone. You can argue who it’s worse for, but comparing dollars to people is pretty disgusting. It’s just bad for everyone. And in this case, peace is better for everyone. So we’ll probably get there eventually. Either that or one side will obliterate the other.

Leverage to not return to full-scale war At worst it will continue to be tit for tat
