I asked a co-worker about his mileage in his 2023 GMC diesel truck, and he was getting around 20 mpg highway.
I had a Ford F150 with a gasoline engine, and it wa good for maybe 17 mpg highway. The nearest gas station that can sell me gas that isn’t old or full of water (hooray for rural living) is about 8 miles away. I think that is $1.83 to drive it to the gas station, based on the $3.89 price I saw this morning.
Of course I have to be smug and point out that I get around 4.5 miles per kwh now.
My mileage is roughly the same, between 13 to 14 kwh per 100km. I pay 0.35€ per kw so that puts my 100km at around 4.75€. Right now in italy that’s around 2lt of diesel. You won’t get 100km from 2lt of diesel. Ever. And it’s only going to get worse.
I’ve been mocked since I first got an EV almost 5 years ago because I didn’t have a realcar™ so now I am sorry but I’m gonna point how much does it cost me to drive my car every time someone brings out the gas prices at work.
Ive only been driving an EV for two months. The sneers have started to taper off the last two weeks.
My electric at home is about 8¢ per kwh. From my driveway to work and back is almost exactly 62 miles which is close to 100 km. If I assume Im not perfect and I only get 4 miles per kwh, I use 15.5 kwh commuting each day which comes to $1.24. Diesel was 5.99/gallon this morning, some gentle touches on my calculator tell me that $1.24 comes out to .787 liters of diesel fuel. Which as you point out isn’t going to take you far.

Wish I could work from home.
