I’m happy for you that you’re doing it, growing tomatoes is nice and fun if you’re into that sort of things, and it’s might be the only way to actually get your hands on good tomatoes this days. I, however, despise this “I’m actually a proletarian doing a mutual aid” larp, because you aren’t and you don’t. It’s insulting and performative, and if your goal is actual mutual aid, it’s actively goes against it. It’s not better or worse than any other hobby you might have.
I suggested planting and preserving vegetables so they can be eaten or shared in a pinch. Not dropping off grid completely. Those are two wildly different ends of the scale when it comes to putting plants in dirt.
